LEGO Star Wars Gets Lights, Sounds, and a Whole Lot More Fun
My three favorite sets in this new LEGO wave all feel like they belong together, and once you line them up, Mos Eisley practically builds itself.
Earlier this month LEGO announced a new Smart Brick called SMART Play, and the idea is simple in the best way possible. You still get classic LEGO builds, but now they can react with lights and sounds when you play with them. To go along with it, LEGO revealed a brand new wave of Star Wars sets landing March 1st that are designed to work with this system. Out of the lineup, three immediately jumped to the top of my list: the Mos Eisley Cantina, Luke’s Landspeeder, and the Millennium Falcon. Put them together and you can basically recreate the entire Mos Eisley sequence from Star Wars: A New Hope on your desk or living room floor, which feels exactly like the kind of Star Wars chaos I want in my house.
What really seals it for me is how personal this wave feels. One of the minifigs included is the Gonk Droid, which has always been a weird favorite of mine, and seeing it show up here just makes me smile. The sets work great on their own, but when paired with a SMART Brick from an all in one set, they unlock reactive play that responds to movement and interaction. You can preorder them now through Amazon or directly from LEGO, and I already know these are going to be a build night with my son the moment they arrive. Classic Star Wars, hands on building, and a little bit of new tech magic mixed in feels like LEGO hitting the sweet spot.
